We like to help you with calculating the right amount of fabric to use for your new curtains, based on a pencil pleated curtain.

Before you do the calculation you have to measure the window height, width and the recess depth, left right and centre of the window. You also need to measure the stack back space. This is the space where the curtains are stacked back into once they are drawn back. Make sure that you do not cover too much of the window once the curtains are open, to maximise light. It is important to measure three times to avoid any mistakes.

Also you need the height of the curtain track and the size of the curtain hook. Then you need to know the size of your heading tape or the buckram if you want to make the heading by hand.

If you want to have your curtains just a little bit over the floor length, just add one centimetre to the fabric length.

Coming to the fabric it is important that you are aware of the pattern repeat and the exact dimensions of the repeat horizontally and vertically. Also you need to know the fabric width since this will indicate how many widths you will need for one curtain.
